Have you ever heard about Rodan + Fields? Neither had I until three years ago.
I had really never contemplated becoming a consultant for a skincare company. I had always loved skincare. Why I can remember the very first all-in-one skincare line that I purchased. It was a whopping $70 for cleanser, day and night cream products. Oh my ~ that was so extravagant for a girl living on her own in Toronto, going to university and working three jobs to pay for expenses. Did I mention it was french? I felt very important! I felt very Parisian! That was probably 40 years ago.
But I digress ~ back to Rodan + Fields and three years ago. I had been following a fashion blogger whose audience was the 50+ age category. I had noticed that over the months I had been following her, her skin had begun to soften it seemed to be taking on a glow. I wasn’t the only one who noticed. In one of her posts she shared that, several months previous, she had decided to try Rodan + Fields skincare. She had loved it so much, she had become a consultant.
Where did you get that red nose?
At 63 I was beginning to notice fine lines around my eyes, and forehead but what really concerned me was my red nose and the blue lines and redness in my cheeks. I recognized this as rosacea and had tried a couple of products that were specifically meant to address it. They did not work.
After reading up on Rodan + Fields I ordered the Redefine Regimen online. After two weeks of following the daily routine, I took the photograph above. I couldn’t believe the difference in my skin. I contacted my fashion blogger, by email and signed myself up as an independent consultant.
What in the world did I just do?
I was terrified. I am not a sales person. Even at our non-profit charity bbqs I have a hard time asking a customer for $2 for a hot dog.
I had no idea what I was doing so there has been a steep learning curve. I had been on the look out for a business that I could have outside of my full-time job, that would be fun, engaging and offer me an opportunity to help others and I am so grateful for my loyal customers.
I am still not very adept or comfortable with the whole online facebook/instagram/social media selling gig. My very first facebook live I thought I would die of embarrassment. According to my co-workers though, I have no issue taking and posting selfies!
The bonus is the comraderie
Apart from the obvious improvement in my skin, which has translated into a boost in my confidence especially as I age, I have landed in the laps of an assortment of team members, from all walks of life, at different stages of their lives, but with one thing in common ~ a passion to help others and support one another.
I’ve also developed some skills as it relates to social media that have been quite beneficial to my full-time job.
Looking back
That first step into this business was a doozie for me, and most definitely a giant leap into the unknown, but I’m so glad I trusted my instincts and jumped in!
