You often read about it in magazines. You may or may not have your own space. To read. To do yoga. To pray. To be you. Maybe you don’t need that kind of space. I do.
That space was always “the kitchen” when the kids were young. I could create and innovate while a toddler was on the kitchen floor with a pot and a spatula in front of them making noise. The kitchen afforded a view of the living room, the dining room ~ the back deck with the pool, and was accessible to the summer kitchen (later the movie and pool room). It had a huge bay window. The house was built in 1850 so it had rad heating and the window box that Alex built, sat over that rad. It was a wonderful warm place to get baking on a Sunday morning when everyone was still asleep.
Creating the new space in the little house that chose us!
Our new house is also, shall we say, a house from a different era. But the heavy wrought iron windows were in desperate need of replacing. That said. When we bought the house the space looked like it was uninhabited and unloved. An old couch was left there when we did our final visit before closing and the room felt chilly.
For me the space just begged to be a three season yoga room.
I’m taking my yoga practise a little more seriously now. I’m beginning to see that my day seems to flow easily when I start the early morning with a 10 to 15 minute yoga class. I have been a devotee of Gaia Yoga for many years now. I pay a nominal amount every month, and have access to wellness videos, movies, inspirational interviews, I love it. I am a particular fan of Nichole Golden’s yoga class, primarily hatha, but always gentle and heart based.
Gaia advertises that it is “offering the largest online resource of consciousness-expanding videos, over 8,000!” I just know that my day ends well when I follow Nichole Golden’s sweet voice as she gently moves us through hatha yoga in “Sweet Slumber Prep“. I never knew “legs up the wall” could make me feel so divine.
This is not the end of this three-season room mini-renovation. Oh no. I have plans. What do you think of this?
I can see right away that my space is significantly smaller than the one above but the similarities are quite interesting aren’t they? Do you have a designated space or corner of your home? I’d love to hear about it!
